Yoga for Flexibility and Balance

This class will get your joints moving, muscles working and energy flowing. Each session begins seated in a chair for a brief mental exercise to shift our focus into the body and bring awareness to the breath. We will then add movements to mobilize the joints and get the blood flowing.  We will then practice seated and standing postures that will build strength, flexibility and balance. Classes will conclude with resting poses that can be done seated or lying down for deep relaxation. (Side effects may include improved mood and better sleep!)

Required equipment: an armless dining chair or folding chair, a thin yoga mat. Recommended equipment: two yoga blocks (large books or a small step stool may be useful alternatives), supportive props (pillows, towel rolls, bolsters, etc.) if doing resting poses lying down.

This class is designed for older adults and those with chronic illness, including Parkinson's disease. It is offered in partnership with To Life Therapy and Wellness.  It will initially be offered online only but will expand to in-person session in September.
